Stephen P. Hundley, Ph.D., is Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Planning and Institutional Improvement at IUPUI, an urban-serving institution with 30,000 students. He is also Professor of Organizational Leadership within the Department of Technology Leadership and Communication in IUPUI’s School of Engineering and Technology. Stephen chairs the annual national-level Assessment Institute in Indianapolis, the nation’s oldest and largest higher education event focused on assessment and improvement. He is host of Leading Improvements in Higher Education, a podcast profiling people, initiatives, institutions, and organizations improving conditions in higher education. Stephen is also executive editor of Assessment Update, an award-winning bimonthly periodical from Wiley with a national readership. With Susan Kahn, he is co-editor of Trends in Assessment: Ideas, Opportunities, and Issues for Higher Education (Stylus Publishing, 2019). His prior administrative roles at IUPUI include program director, department chair, and associate dean for academic affairs and undergraduate programs in the School of Engineering and Technology; associate vice chancellor for strategic initiatives in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer; and interim associate vice chancellor for undergraduate education and dean of University College. Stephen earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and a doctorate from American University in Washington, D.C.

As the Executive Director for the Center for Assessment and Research Studies, Keston H. Fulcher, Ph.D. ensures the department is supporting the needs of the university faculty as it pertains to the assessment of student learning outcomes. In his day-to-day role, Keston oversees all of the faculty in CARS in their assessment specialist roles, and provides leadership for ~15 graduate and doctoral assistants. Keston ensures that CARS stays connected to the needs and priorities of the university, and sets the strategic direction for the Center. By fostering relationships between CARS and other units/organizations, both internal and external to JMU, Keston endeavors to help higher education transform from a "culture of assessment" to a "culture of learning improvement." With Caroline Prendergast, he is co-author of Improving Student Learning at Scale: A How-To Guide for Higher Education (Stylus Publishing, 2021). Keston was recently invited to initiate the Improvement and Innovation track at the Assessment Institute, and to author an occasional column in Assessment Update called “Improvement Matters.” He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, his master’s degree from the University of Kansas, and his doctorate from James Madison University.
