Launching in 2025: GenAI in Assessment Community of Practice
The Assessment Institute in Indianapolis, the oldest and largest U.S. event focused on assessing and improving higher education, will launch a Community of Practice (CoP) related to Generative AI (GenAI) in Assessment beginning later this year. Applications to join the CoP are due by Monday, June 30, 2025.
Purpose: The GenAI CoP will provide professional development opportunities for its members, including access to guest speakers and subject-matter-experts involved in the rapidly developing arena of GenAI. CoP members will build networks, pilot projects in their local contexts, and contribute to the development of resources to share with the broader higher education assessment community.
Audience: While the CoP is open to any member of the higher education community (including faculty, staff, administrators, policymakers, and commercial or community partners), space will be limited. To maximize the benefits of the CoP’s purpose, those interested in joining the CoP should have some initial experiences using AI in their professional context. There is no cost to participate in the CoP.
CoP Leaders: The GenAI CoP will be led by John Hathcoat from James Madison University, Will Miller from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Ruth Slotnick from Bridgewater State University. These colleagues will be joined by guest speakers and subject-matter-experts throughout the CoP experience.
Schedule: The GenAI CoP will meet via Zoom, with additional opportunities for members to network in-person to share resources and disseminate content. Following is a general overview of activities for 2025-2026.
