The Assessment Institute welcomes HIPs in the States!
The HIPs in the States series began in 2018 at California State University, Dominguez Hills, in 2019 it was held at Western Kentucky University, and in 2020 at Texas A&M University. Beginning with the 2020 Assessment Institute, HIPs in the States will meet as part of this annual event, including having its own dedicated track at the Assessment Institute each year.
About the HIPs in the States Track
Evidence continues to suggest the benefits of high-impact teaching practices (e.g., first year programs, learning communities, service learning courses, internships, undergraduate research, capstone experiences, ePortfolios) to support student learning, engagement, retention, and success. This track explores a range of HIPs with a focus on how evidence is gathered and evaluated to assess program consistency and quality, student learning across various cohorts, as well as faculty and staff involvement in HIPs. Additionally, the track features institutional strategies to ensure fidelity in the creation and implementation of HIPs, to promote equitable access to HIPs experiences, the scaling of HIPs in the curricular and co-curricular space, the use of scaffolded purposeful curricular pathways through HIPs, and the impact of HIPs on student success and learning during the college years. We welcome proposal submissions and track participation from all who are interested in the HIPs field, especially those researchers and practitioners working 2-year and 4-year public postsecondary institutions, where delivery of HIPs can face particular challenges of affordability, access, equity, capacity building, and sustainability.
Please visit the Call for Proposals section of the website to propose a session for the HIPs in the States track.
