Dr. LeRoy Jones II is a Science Education Administrator at the National Science Foundation. He is a Program Director for the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and Historically Black Colleges & Universities Undergraduate Programs (HBCU-UP). His responsibilities includes long-range planning, budget development and fiscal management of $100 MM; managing an effective, timely merit review, award and declination process, and post-award management process; communicating current and future funding opportunities; coordination and collaborating with other Programs in NSF, other Federal agencies and organizations; and advising and assisting the Division Director in the development of long-range plans that ensure the Directorate’s Investments are targeted to challenges and opportunities in the directorate’s research and education fields.
Prior to joining the NSF, Dr. Jones II was the Dean and Professor of Chemistry in the College of Arts & Sciences at Chicago State University (CSU) and Executive Director of the Center for STEM Education & Research at CSU. He also was a Research Scientist for BP Amoco Chemicals in Naperville, Illinois prior to joining CSU. He has presented papers and posters at numerous regional, national and international conferences, and has directly contributed to over 30 publications and a patent. He has been the recipient of several awards, fellowships and honors, and received a Honorable Discharge from the United States Army Reserves.
Dr. Jones II received a B.S. degree in chemistry with a minor in religious studies from Bradley University, a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of South Carolina at Columbia, and served as a Postdoctoral Scholar in organometallic chemistry at Caltech. He completed an American Council on Education Fellowship at Hampton University (ACE Class of 2010-11).
